Born  in 1980 in Madhubani, Bihar,

Mrs. Hema Devi, hails from a distinguished family of traditional Madhubani artists and is also married into one. Her mother, Leela Devi, and mother-in-law, Subhadra Devi, are both National Award-winning artists. Deeply rooted in this rich artistic legacy, Hema Devi began practicing Madhubani painting at the young age of ten.

A celebrated artist in her own right, she received the National Award in 2016, the State Award in 2010, and the Sita Devi Variya Puraskar – Bihar Kala Puruskar for 2018–19. She has conducted training sessions and workshops at several prestigious institutions, including IIT Chennai, IIT Mumbai, IIT Tirupati, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and Hansraj College, University of Delhi.

Hema Devi has represented India in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on International Yoga Day, and served as a teacher at the Upendra Maharathi Shilp Anusandhan Sansthan under the Government of Bihar. She has collaborated with Zee News, demonstrated her art at Lalit Kala Akademi, Jaipur, and currently works with the Switzerland-based organization Catterfly. She has been associated with SPIC MACAY since 2012.
