Collection: Manikanandan Punnakkal

Mural artist from Kerala, Manikandan Punnakkal,,  completed a five-year National Diploma in Mural Painting from the Institute of Mural Painting, Guruvayur (2000–2005) and an M.F.A. in Painting from Karnataka State Open University, Mysore (2011–2013). Deeply rooted in traditional Kerala mural techniques, he has developed his own distinct visual language that translates the grandeur of wall murals onto canvas.

Guided by ancient texts like Chitrasutra and Silparatna, Manikandan skillfully balances classical geometry and figuration with contemporary aesthetics. His mastery lies in reinterpreting traditional forms through a modern sensibility while retaining their spiritual essence.

His celebrated series Anandini personifies bliss through the female form—depicted in graceful, dance-like postures radiating sensuality, joy, and freedom. Surrounded by musical motifs, flowers, and natural elements, Anandini becomes both earthly and divine, symbolizing the sacred energy of Lalitha from the Shakti tradition. Through such works, Manikandan bridges mythology and modern expression, embodying a timeless harmony between art, devotion, and beauty.
