Collection: Laxman Suyabhan Chawan, Maharashtra

Born  in 1981 in Maharashtra,

Lakshman Suryabhan Chavan emerged from a humble background to become the first in his family to earn a fine arts degree. He completed his Art Teacher Diploma from Kailas Kalaniketan Chitrakala Mahavidyalaya, Beed (2004), followed by a G.D. Art Diploma in Drawing and Painting from Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pune (2010), and a Diploma in Art Education from Kalasagar Kala Mahavidyalaya, Pune (2011).

Lakshman’s artistic journey reflects resilience and dedication. Despite enrolling in the Sculpture Department at Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, financial constraints led him back to painting, where he found his true expression. He has held several solo exhibitions at Jehangir Art Gallery, Nehru Centre, and Trident Art Walk, among others, and participated in group shows across India and abroad.

Recipient of multiple honors—including the Maharashtra State Award (2020) and Bombay Art Society Award (2020)—Lakshman continues to create deeply expressive works rooted in everyday life. He currently lives and works in Mumbai.
