Collection: Raju Battula

Born on 1982, West Godavari, Andhra Pradesh, India,

Raju Battula is a contemporary Indian artist whose works explore the dynamic coexistence of Western and Indian iconographic traditions within a single visual frame. He completed his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Hyderabad and earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from S.V. College of Fine Arts, affiliated with Osmania University.

Deeply inspired by the epic narratives of the Ramayana and Mahabharata, Battula’s art reimagines mythological themes through a modern and narrative lens. His compositions intertwine miniature-style detailing, manuscript text, and vibrant colour palettes, creating a layered dialogue between tradition and contemporaneity. By merging classical motifs with modern sensibilities, he constructs visual worlds where mythic characters and symbolic elements transcend time and context.

Battula’s works often feature bold central figures, surrounded by intricate patterns and vivid hues that enliven the surface with rhythm and energy. His practice reflects a harmonious blend of realism, storytelling, and symbolic abstraction, celebrating India’s artistic heritage while offering a fresh, modern perspective. He has participated in several art exhibitions and camps in India and abroad and continues to live and work in Hyderabad.
