Collection: Khagen Goswami, Assam
Born on 1974 at Sri Sri Chamaguri Satra, Majuli (Assam),
Khagen Goswami belongs to a Vaishnavite Sattriya tradition deeply rooted in the cultural and spiritual legacy of Srimanta Sankardeva. From a young age, he was nurtured in an artistic environment under the guidance of Late Rudra Kanta Dev Goswami and Late Dharma Kanta Goswami, receiving traditional training in mask making, wooden and cement sculpture, Sattriya dance, and music.
Greatly inspired by his uncle, Padma Shri and Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee Dr. Hemchandra Goswami, and Prof. Krishna Goswami of the Government College of Art, Guwahati, he refined his skills in the art of traditional Mukha Shilpa (mask making).
Over the years, he has participated in and conducted numerous mask-making workshops and training programmes across India, including at IIT Guwahati, IIT Madras, Majuli University of Culture, and the National School of Drama. As a Master Trainer and Resource Person, he continues to preserve and promote the living heritage of Majuli’s traditional mask-making. His work in directing Mukha Bhaona at the G20 Summit (2023) brought international recognition to this unique Assamese art form.
