Collection: Sumit Kumar, Uttar Pradesh

Sumit Kumar is a Lucknow-based freelance artist whose work beautifully evokes the cultural and emotional landscape of rural India. His artistic practice reflects deep nostalgia for the innocence of childhood, village life, and traditional festivities—particularly those celebrated during Saavan. His paintings often depict people swinging from tree branches, worshipping Lord Shiva with Belpatra and Dhatura, and participating in age-old rituals that symbolize joy, devotion, and community.

Sumit’s art draws inspiration from fading traditions, folk motifs, and the collective memories of village life. Through his vibrant compositions in watercolor, acrylic, oil, and pastel, he revives the beauty of lost cultural practices, especially traditional games and social activities that once shaped mental, physical, and emotional well-being.

A graduate and postgraduate in Visual Arts from Dr. Shakuntala Mishra National Rehabilitation University, Lucknow, Sumit has received several honors, including the National Fellowship in Painting (Lalit Kala Akademi, 2022) and multiple state-level awards. His solo exhibitions—Nostalgia (Kala Srot, 2022) and Madai (Gurukul Art Gallery, 2025)—reflect his continuing journey of preserving India’s living heritage through art.
